Welcome to 32Bits.co.uk - Coding for real people!

Well, I'm your normal everyday person who just happens to like to do a bit of coding. When I started coding on x86, I found that for DirectX especially there was little to help the newbie coder. I was determined to learn, and I did (painfully). Many years later this site was born. The aim for this site is to give complete, useful tutorials at a level anyone can understand - tutorials I wish I had when I was learning. If you want to learn DirectX, MFC & other technologies, this is the place for you. Since launch, 32Bits has matured into a full portal & content system for real people who like to learn & code.

Read the full introduction & FAQ here, and submit your news to us here.

 News: Contacts change
32Bits NewsHi all, due to the ridiculous amount of spam (500+ per day) I've been receiving to accounts at 32bits, I've turned off catchall forwarding for mail. This means you won't be able to email me unless you know my specific private address. So, until the spam dies off a bit, please use the forums to contact me - either via private message or by public posting. Apologies for this, as it does mean all the "report a bug" email links in the tutorials will now return a non-deliverable report.

 News: Microsoft XNA (Windows and XBox) Beta
Reader SubmissionsNozDJ writes "'XNA Home Page' I know there will be a lot of sceptics about this one, but I thought I would announce it. Microsoft is just about to release in beta, 'XNA Studio Express'. As from August 20th 2006 you will be able to download a free copy of this framework and write Managed DirectX games that should be easily portable on a retail XBox 360. I realise that Managed DirectX code will never out perform or offer the power of native C++ code and ASM, but the Microsoft vision of XNA is to bring back the good old days of bedroom game development. I seriously recommend checking it out, this tool also allows independent game developers a chance to build games for platforms more affordably and quickly. Here is a video of 'Game Fest 2006', it certainly shows how Microsoft aims to try and change the face of the game development industry. It would be interesting to know peoples views on Managed DirectX and the introduction of the XNA technologies and visions. "

 Random Stuff: Off Topic: How to treat customers
Other NewsI don't normally post topics like this, but here's a deserved exception. These people have been blackmailed and generally screwed by their realtor, the person who should be working for them! In the fine tradition of warning others about this poor customer service, Jake and Sue Frievald have dedicated a website to explaining exactly how they've been mistreated, stonewalled and blackmailed. It's essential reading for anyone considering using Weichert Realtors, right here.

 Microsoft Planning ''Direct Physics'' for DirectX?

 News: Brass - Magic Shiny Stuff for Windows
Other NewsI'm please to announce the public release of the first version of Brass by your 32Bits team! Brass is a plugin-based Windows enhancement tool that can skin your taskbar and start button, display RSS news feeds on your desktop, output files in transparent floating windows and much more. The most amazing plugin is called Mime. Mime enables every single Windows application to receive mouse gestures, just like Firefox. Immediately after install it can enable gestures in MS Office, WinAmp, Internet Explorer, UltraEdit, FlashFXP and more. It can also do cross-application gestures, so you can make a gesture in Internet Explorer that starts and stops WinAmp playback! There's lots more information on the website, at http://www.amazingbrass.co.uk.

Microsoft are starting to force people to upgrade Visual Studio just to use DirectX. Good idea?

Yes! Those laggards with Visual C++ 6 deserve it!
No! I prefer VC6, why force me to upgrade?
Hah! I don't use Visual C++ anyway!
Eh? Who cares, I just want to code.
